ETIAS Travel Authorization for Micronesians

Citizens of Micronesia can visit Europe without obtaining a Schengen visa until late 2025, courtesy of the country’s visa waiver agreement with the EU. This is only true for Micronesians traveling to the Schengen Area on short trips of less than 90 days for various reasons, including tourism, leisure, medical, business, and transit purposes.
However, the visa-free status currently enjoyed by Micronesian passport holders will require online registration beginning in late 2025. The mandatory travel authorization, referred to as ETIAS, can be obtained entirely online, eliminating the need to queue at an embassy or consulate.

ETIAS is an acronym for European Travel Information and Authorization System. It is being developed to assist EU authorities in effectively screening visa-exempt citizens before arriving in Europe. The ETIAS is a mandatory travel authorization for nationals of over 60 countries with which the European Union has visa-waiver agreements.
From late 2025 on, the ETIAS will be a mandatory requirement for all Micronesians seeking entry to the Schengen Area for stays of less than 90 days.

Which countries are accessible to Micronesians via an ETIAS?

Once approved, the ETIAS visa waiver for Micronesians entitles holders to enter and travel freely throughout the 26 member states.

In comparison to obtaining a visa, obtaining an ETIAS travel authorization from Micronesia does not require an interview with diplomatic personnel or extensive paperwork.
Applying for an ETIAS for Micronesians is straightforward and takes no more than ten minutes. Before filling out the online ETIAS application, Micronesian citizens must ensure they have all the required documents.

Micronesian Citizens' ETIAS Travel Requirements

Nationals of Micronesia must possess the following documents to complete the online application for an ETIAS:
• A machine-readable biometric, valid passport issued by the Micronesian government.
• A citizen's email address
• Debit/Credit Card
To be accepted for the ETIAS application, the current Micronesian identity document must have a remaining validity period of at least three months beyond the intended travel dates. The applicant's email address is needed to receive notifications regarding their Micronesian ETIAS application. ...
The applicant should also receive a digital copy of the ETIAS in PDF format to their email address once their visa waiver application is approved and issued. As a result, it is critical for the Micronesian citizen to double-check the email address entered on the application form. Any errors or typographical errors could result in a delay in the processing of their ETIAS application. Credit or debit card payment is required for the applicant to complete their online request and pay the ETIAS issuance fees.

• Complete name
• Birthdate
• Birthplace
• Country of passport issuance
• Passport number
• Date of passport issuance
• Passport expiration date
• Electronic Mail Address
• The phone number
• Date of intended arrival

Important note: Before finishing your application form, please carefully review all data entered.
To be valid for your ETIAS application, the information entered must exactly match the data displayed on the personal details page of your Micronesian passport. Any inaccuracies or discrepancies may result in a delay in processing your request.
Once approved, the ETIAS visa waiver will be electronically linked to the specific passport used to apply. The ETIAS authorization cannot be transferred to an updated passport if the one currently in use expires. The ETIAS travel authorization for Micronesians is valid for three years, provided the passport used to apply remains valid. If your passport expires before the three-year period is up, the citizen must apply online for a new ETIAS from Micronesia.
Fortunately, the application process is simple and quick. On business days, most ETIAS visa waivers shall be processed within 24 hours. Certain cases, however, may take longer to approve but are typically resolved within two or three business days. As such, it is prudent to apply for the travel permit from Micronesia at least three business days before your intended departure date for Europe.

Micronesian Security Key Points Using ETIAS

Additionally, all ETIAS applicants will be required to respond to some essential health and security questions. It is critical to respond truthfully to these questions.
Certain minor offenses committed in the citizen’s country of origin may not preclude the citizen from obtaining an ETIAS if the authorities determine that the applicant does not threaten the European Union’s security.
Like all other ETIAS applicants, Micronesian citizens’ data will be screened by several security databases, including Europol and Interpol. This data screening process aims to increase security within the Schengen Area, deter persons committing identity fraud from entering, and assist in the fight against terrorism in Europe. Increased security throughout the European Union benefits both residents and visitors.
When combined with the Smart Borders and Entry/Exit systems, the ETIAS significantly speeds up border crossings and entry into the Schengen Area.
