ETIAS Visa Waiver for Guatemala Citizens

Guatemalan travelers can visit Schengen Area countries for short stays without a visa. That means Guatemalans don’t have to go to a European consulate or embassy before visiting any member country. They are part of the Visa Exempt Program.
Travelers from Guatemala need to provide EU border officials their passports upon arriving in any Schengen country to gain entry for the duration of up to 90 days. But, from 2025, there is a new obligatory travel requirement for Guatemalan citizens and other visa-exempt travelers who plan to visit the Schengen country.

To protect the region from terrorist attacks, the EU has announced to safeguard the area by introducing new travel authorization system; the EU has designed the European Travel Authorization and Information System, also known as its abbreviation, ETIAS. In addition, citizens of Guatemala traveling to Europe are now required to obtain online approval before departure. The visa waiver program will take effect from the end of 2025.

A Guatemalan citizen who has been granted an ETIAS visa waiver in the Schengen zone will travel across all 26 states that are part of the free movement zone once they arrive in the first entry country. ETIAS allows holders to travel to the entire 22 EU member states, as well as 4 European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) members, in addition to 3 countries with open borders that are within Schengen’s border. Guatemalan ETIAS holders will be permitted to visit special members of the European Union, such as the Canary Islands and Madeira, which are not within the main EU borders.
Because the ETIAS visa exemption for Guatemalan citizens is available to all countries and territories that make up the Schengen zone which means that travelers can be able to visit any of the Schengen member states; however, travelers from Guatemala must identify a country of entry which they plan to first cross the Schengen border upon arrival. However, once a visitor is in Europe and has been granted an ETIAS Visa waiver, they’ll be able to travel to any country participating in the visa waiver arrangement.
ETIAS Travel Authorization is valid for three years from the date of issuance. ETIAS visa waiver permits Guatemalan citizens and any other applicants eligible for unlimited entry into all of the states and countries within the Schengen Area for tourism, medical, business, or transit for medical.
All ETIAS holders can travel freely in all Schengen Area countries so long as they don’t overstay the 90-day limit within a 180-day time frame. After the 180-day timeframe expires, Guatemalan nationals with an approved ETIAS visa waiver will be granted another 90 days to spend in Schengen Area countries.

All Guatemalan citizens who sign up with the ETIAS require a valid email account. The Visa waivers will be issued to them in PDF format.
Travelers who don’t have an active passport or who fail to apply for ETIAS at a minimum of 72 hours before the date of their departure to the Schengen Zone will not be permitted to enter the territory.

Guatemalans Can Apply for ETIAS Online

Guatemalan citizens can obtain their ETIAS visa waiver by applying online. The program has designed an application system that is simple and includes procedures that only require applicants to provide basic biographical information.
This ETIAS online application process will require all eligible citizens to complete the application with their complete name, passport details, and travel plans. The Guatemalan citizen filling out the application should include an active email address in which they would like to get the ETIAS electronically.
The European Union has developed this program to screen travelers before arriving at the Schengen frontiers. The program is a result of recent threats to Security in the area. Hence the ETIAS system enhances Security for travelers and locals alike.
There is a small ETIAS cost to be paid when you submit your application. Once the department approves the application, your ETIAS travel authorization is valid for three years or until the applicant’s passport expires or until it occurs first. The ETIAS approved can be sent directly to the applicant’s email address and remains connected to the applicant’s Guatemalan passport.
Most ETIAS visa waiver requests should get processed in 24 hours; however, this can vary. In general, Guatemalan applicants who wish to travel to Europe must apply at least three days before their travel date.
